Cobargo Community Development Corporation Limited

Helping create an innovative, progressive and resilient Cobargo and district for the benefit of the community.

Located at the northern gateway into the Bega Valley Shire in South Eastern NSW, Cobargo and district lies between the coastal town of Bermagui and the Monaro high plains, on the lands of the traditional custodians, the Yuin nation. A picturesque blend of rolling grazing lands and forested ranges, the heart of the area is the historic village of Cobargo which traces its European history back to 1820’s when settlers first moved stock into the locale.

By the early 1860’s a settlement had sprung up called “The Junction”, later to become the village Cobargo as development gained pace into the 1870s and 1880s with a school, post office, blacksmiths, churches and several hotels being established. In recent years Cobargo has been revitalised as a popular tourist stop on the Princes Highway .

A significant number of the village’s main street historic buildings were destroyed by the devastating New Year’s Eve 2019 Black Summer bushfires, which also saw the loss of some 300 homes and countless sheds and other infrastructure in the area, many stock and thousands of kilometers of farm fencing, and tragically the loss of 4 lives.

However the people of Cobargo are resilient and united as plans are made to build back better, rising to the many challenges and working cooperatively together across a number of innovative and powerful community led recovery projects.

The CCDC Limited proudly joins in sharing the vision for a future Cobargo - a vibrant, strong, and resilient community which is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.
